One of the huge benefits of dads participating in the hypnosis process is that we know through many studies that when anybody is in hypnosis, their body releases endorphins. And so when a mom is in hypnosis, her body also releases endorphins, which means she's sort of bathing her baby in endorphins. And when the baby is happy, it moves around a lot, it wiggles, and the baby then begins to associate hearing dad's voice who's reading the script with those endorphins. So there's literally a bonding between the birth partner or the father and the baby that's still inside the womb. So clearly, after the baby's born, the baby's not only going to recognize dad's voice but is going to associate that with those happy feelings that it experienced inside of the womb.

Mandy Schutt

Doula & Hypnosis Instructor

Mandy Schutt was backpacking around the world when she decided that she wanted to become a doula. As she floated through the Amazon Pampas with two European midwives, she was immediately captivated by their birth stories and the culture of womanhood that they spoke of. Traveling on through South America, Europe, and Asia, she was able to witness motherhood in a different light than she had before. When she ran across the term, "doula" for the first time, she knew this was a name she wanted to claim for herself!

Mandy looks at a woman's ability to grow another life inside of her as nothing short of a miracle. She supports women in their efforts to discover this for themselves and know that the act of giving birth is more than just an isolated event in a mother's life, it is realization of an empowerment that many never realized existed. She gave birth to her daughter in 2009, which was the single most amazing event of her life. Mandy believes that women should birth where and how they are the most comfortable and secure. Her safe place was in her home with a midwife, her husband, a doula, hypnosis, and a gorgeous pool of pain-dissolving water!
