In our practice, we get asked should my kids take supplements, vitamins, other things that may be helpful. And my answer is first and foremost let´s make sure that they have a good diet. I mean you have to. That´s the basics. If you are not eating well, then no matter how much supplements you take, it´s not going to replace it. So the wholesome meals of balance, what you have is whole grains. You have protein. You have good fats, not bad fats. When we talk about bad fats, we include things like butter, cheese, those bad fats. Good fats are nuts and seeds and all that good stuff that´s wonderful for you. And so if children are eating good, wholesome meals, then most likely they don´t really need to be taking vitamins unless they have special needs. Now, having said that, I put my kids on sort of a liquid vitiamin supplement that´s extracted from fruits and vegetables because getting extra fruits and vegetables in a form of a vitamin, extracted in a liquid, which is much easier to absorb and doesn´t require digestion, I think is a good idea. And then there are special needs for menustrating teenage girls and they blow up. They have a lot of swelling. I recommend a little bit of B6, vitamin B6, which is very, very good as a diuretic, to just clear the bloating. That´s just an example of if there are special circumstances and needs that kids have, we won´t hesitate to recommend vitamins and supplements.
