Using humor to deal with loss, it does not sound like your typical way of coping with the death of a child. And it is hard. It is the kind of thing you do not want to laugh. You do not think you will ever laugh again. I remember thinking I will never smile. I will never laugh. My life is over. But eventually, you start thinking about the funny things that your loved one did and your memories. You can´t help but smile and you cannot help but laugh. And then, from a recovery standpoint, you so yearn for your old life back. You want to be that kind of carefree, silly person that you might have been before. And by laughing, you can kind of feel those little links to who you used to be before your child died. It helps you kind of connect the two halves of yourself: the person you were before loss and the person you are now.
