In the male ejaculate, there are certain substances called prostaglandins which can cause contractions to occur. However, having sex during pregnancy rarely results in labor unless the patient is really ready to go into labor. However, if you are 41 weeks, you are dilated on your own, and have a few contractions; having sex will kind of push you over the edge a little and may initiate labor.
