The best way to handle your child hitting is to use the very old and tried technique called prescribing the symptom. Many parents in a hitting situation turn themselves into servants and they beg their child not to hit and they say, "Oh. It's not nice. It hurts the other person." The most effective technique is to redirect your child and say, "Oh. You need to hit something." And so at home, you could have a hitting pillow and you immediately say, "Hit this." And then, part 2 is we don't ever hit people so it's a very direct prescription.
