Often people will pigeon-hole your kids. They will try to put them in a category because we are wired biologically to do that, to make sense of our world, to put it in a neat, organized fashion. It's not so good for the kids. It's not so great when grandma says, "She's the pretty one and she's the smart one;" as if you can't be smart and pretty. It's really important that we help our kids with this. So if somebody says, "Johnny is so quiet one and Tommy is really talkative." It's important to say something, "Yeah, you're right Johnny isn't talking much, but boy can he talk up a storm at home." In this way, the kids hear that they are just not one thing. They have much more room to grow and they have a much more expansive identity.
