So how do you coach when your child is on the team? And how do you treat them as opposed to the other kids? Most parents are the coaches today in youth soccer, basketball, little league baseball. So almost every team´s coach or coaches are parents of kids on those teams. The most important part that I learned from being both a tball coach all the way up to being a travel ball coach that took a team to the World Series is that you have to be able to treat your child the exact same as every other kid on that team. And what I did was when we were out on the field either practice or in games, I would tell my child do not call me dad when we are out in the games and practices. I am either Jeff or I am coach Jeff. And I am just like every other coach that you have ever had once we are out on the field. I am not your dad. I am not going to treat you any different than any of the other kids. I think it´s so important that you do this because I will tell you this. Every kid who has played on a team whose dad has coached another kid and favored him, every kid knows that that coach is favoring their own son. And there is nothing worse than having a favoritism situation on one of your teams.
