It's important to think about bullies, not as bullies as a label, because all kids can use bullying behavior sometimes, right? That's a better way to look at this because labeling becomes a problem for kids and they start to think and act that way. We don't want to do that. Let's talk about bullying behavior. If we look at kids who do bullying at times and get away with it, here are some of the traits they have: They can be popular. They can be confident. They can be liked by other kids and have lots of friends. They are the kids that everyone sees as leaders, but they are different from leaders in one major way. Leaders have empathy and are inclusive; and bullies do not use their empathy and are exclusive. Those kids will have to be recognized because they do the most damage because they are on the top of the social chain. We have to really find the, reward them for doing inclusive things to build their empathy.
