If you have a girl -- Again, I'm being sexist, but you might be able to butt out. I think it's unlikely that a boy will schedule himself well enough and get everything done, the summer before, which will help with the difficult senior course load in the Fall. I think getting the boy on schedule, helping with the girl's schedule, organizing the testing so it all doesn't come up at once. Pay attention to what teachers are writing in their letters of recommendation because those are going to count a lot. If it's a teacher that is crazy about your son or daughter, just file that report card, so you can find it later. Keep track of awards. A lot of kids have trouble remembering what they did the summer before they are filling out the application. You might just be there to kind of tweak their memory. Of course, you are going to have to pay for all the applications as well.

In 2012 the blog morphed into the LA Times Bestseller, "The Neurotic Parent's Guide to College Admissions." She grew up in Brooklyn, and resided in several Latin American countries before settling in Santa Monica, where she and her husband live in their emptying nest. She prepared for none of her careers in college.
