It's not uncommon today for kids to want to take a year off between high school and college. The fear for parents is once they take a year off, they will never go to college and they will lose their momentum and they will lose their track in life. The truth is it's best for kids to go straight from high school to college because they are already in the habit of studying and they are already in the routine of being part of a school program, but it's not for all kids. And it's also important. What are they wanted to do with that year off. If they meet a year off to develop some focus and some motivation, they can work. Working hard for a year generally teaches kids, that they really rather be in school and if the education goes a long way as suppose to trying to get a job with no college degree. Some kids take a year off, because they are pursuing their passion, whether it is sports or theater or music, and I think that's okay. Let them pursue their dreams and if it works they are one of the lucky people that can make a living out of something they love. If that doesn't work they can always go to college a year or two later
