When should parents and their students start looking at schools? A lot of parents its the traditional, Spring Break Junior year, is when a lot of kids start looking at schools. Frequently, their high schools will start doing college tours during Spring Break. While I think that's probably the appropriate time to do it, I'd like to encourage families to start looking at colleges even earlier. Try to take family vacations and incorporate college visits along with the family vacations. Particularly with first generation college students, their parents haven't gone to college. I think it's important to start looking at colleges early on, even if it's just the local schools in your local town, as early as 8th or 9th Grade.
