The idea of putting gardens into schools is to get children invested and to get them involved in what whole food really means and this idea of healthy eating, what it really means. So can it make a difference? I think it can make a difference on many levels but if nothing else, I think that green box with vegetables growing in a natural way on a concrete jungle of a school yard, I think it is a billboard. I think it is a billboard against the 4,000 ads that they will see for food with no nutritional value from the time they are two until 17. Will it make a difference? I think any time you go and spend time with a child, real time, quality time, time in the garden, I think that makes a difference. And if it saves one child and teaches one child the idea of what healthy eating is all about, then I think it is worthwhile.
