It’s important to find a school that’s a philosophical match for your family, because it creates a lot of discord and conflict at home if you’re not a proper match. If you have one very strong belief system that the school does not support, you set yourself up – and your child as well – to be an outlier at school where they have to explain a belief system that may not be very well accepted where they are. And you as a parent are feeling a lot of tension and end up doing a lot of correction at home, because you do not agree with the philosophy of the school.

For the past three decades Dr. Van Der Kar-Levinson has lectured and consulted at private as well as public schools. She has served as an adjunct professor at both the University of California at Los Angeles and Pepperdine University.

Dr. Van Der Kar-Levinson earned her PhD and MA at the University of California at Los Angeles where she studied and trained with some of the nation’s top researchers and clinicians in the fields of child development and clinical psychology. She is a lifetime member of the American Psychological Association.
