Kids suffer from anxiety and stress just like adults. In fact, probably more so because they are still dealing with issues of security and comfort. They have very little tools to deal with that. The anxiety and stress may manifest in trouble sleeping, not sleeping through the night, or difficulty integrating in social situations, or just not being able to take the initiative to start something new. We have a lot of patients who bring their kids in with this specific problem. Acupuncture is a great way to settle the child down. Acupuncture can optimize neurochemicals that relax the child. At the same time, what we do, is engage the child in learning simple breathing and meditation techniques. So this is what we teach them, as well as, sending them home with a little CD to take home. My kids, for example, if they are having trouble sleeping, they will say, "Daddy, can I listen to your meditation CD." Within two minutes, they are out. These are simple tools that we empower the parents, as well as, the child that you don't have to be a victim of stress and anxiety. Help them get back that control so you can be calm and relaxed.
