People worry about anything extreme, because we grow up in a culture that emphasizes moderation. The approach that I take in our programs at Wellspring favor an extreme approach. They favor a stringent goal of 0 fat for example. That scares most people. They think, “Oh, how can I do that? That’s too hard.” Well, every athlete, there are no successful athletes that don’t take an extreme approach. Extreme approach is necessary in the face of a challenging biology. The biology doesn’t want a person to lose the weight and keep it off. And in the face of an obisogenic culture. So taking an approach that is focused, that is consistent, that requires an everyday commitment is an extreme approach, but you know, it’s a successful approach. If you are on a job and you take an attitude of, “Well, I’ll sort of do what I’m supposed to do, but sometimes I won’t really care about it,” how long are you going to last on that job? Weight control is a bit of a job. It requires a certain intensity of focus to be successful.
