Teenagers, I think, you really do need to start to tell them a little bit of why you are doing it. Little kids, you can do a little bit less, but as they get older and understand the consequences of their behavior; you actually want to tell them why you are deciding what you are deciding. It will help them learn how to anticipate consequences. Sometimes you will say, "I need you to come home at midnight because I want to be able to go to sleep." Sometimes it's not because they are doing something wrong, it is just for your convenience. Empathizing with your teen really helps out. Teenager will scream and yell and try to convince you of their plight and try to convince you that they are right.
