One of the questions that parents ask is, "How do I know if my child is using? How do I know if my child is drinking or is in trouble with drugs or alcohol?" And there are signs. What you want to look for in your child is, is there any change? Is there any sudden change? Have they gone from being withdrawn to being very, very social. Has their performance at school changed? And you can be in communication, in contact with your school and get a sense of how they're dealing with their school environment, what's going on, if there's a difference in their studying and their skills and their grades and their attendence, so you want to look at the school measure. And then what about friendships? Have they suddenly lost friends or gained friends? Do they have people that come and go quickly? That's the question that you want to ask yourself. "Am I seeing any change in my child's behavior?" That can be a big indicator for problems, for problems with drugs or alcohol, or problems with their emotional self and their state of being. Those are the key criteria.
