If you're considering admitting your child into a treatment facility for drugs or alcohol, you want to do a little bit of research first. You have to look to see that that treament facility has been in business for a while. Not all facilities are created equal, so you want to make sure that that facility has longevity, and that they have the respect of their community. You can call your various local hospitals and hotlines to find out where they would refer you. They will generally give you three referrals. You can also go online, and when you go online you can find out the history of that facility and how long they've been in business and what are they offering. You want to go to a facility that has a dual diagnosis approach because that's going to lead to lasting recovery. You want to understand how they arrived at where they're at and be able to get them out the other side, so that their sobriety lasts longer than the length of their treatment program. When you're looking at a facility you want to know what they offer. What is their mode of treatment? Many facilities offer dual diagnosis approach, you want to also see if they can also offer equine therapy, art therapy, drama therapy. You need to be in individual therapy and group therapy. You want to be able to access as much as you can, from what they have in them, and every child is different in terms of how they're best going to draw out what's within them. You want to make sure that there's the potential in that program, to meet your child's needs.
