It's true that a lot of games that are designed for girls really rely on stereotypes, like shopping and consumerism and fashion, but there are a lot great video games for girls that have strong female characters, like the Nancy Drew series, the Imagine series; I really encourage parents to follow their daughter's temperament and sensitivities and hobbies to find great female characters in video games. I also really encourage parents to think about the messages that the video game is sending girls, you know, there are lot of games for girls that have strong female characters and even teach girls about careers that they can have, the Imagine series, there's an Imagine Reporter, Imagine Artist and those are great to help kids develop actual, real life job skills.
