Handling discipline with your one and two year old, involves parents understanding what discipline means; which is to teach and to guide. It's not to make them feel bad, but to guide them and give them the parameters of their world. It's also important to understand the development of a toddler. Toddlers are limited in their impulse control, and they are limited in memory, and language. So we have to take those things into consideration when we are discipline. Parents need to come down on their child's level, touch their child to grab their attention, tell them the rule and some information about the rule, and re-direct their child into an appropriate choice; so it moves the child to action. When parents do this consistently and repetitively, over time, the child will internalize these limits and be able to stop their own body, on their own.
