My best tips on potty training is to start early and be prepared for the mess.
As soon as your child is walking and eating solid foods, it's probably safe to assume that he is going to have a solid poop. As soon as he has a solid poop, you diaper him, change him, and clean him up. Walk him over to the toilet and allow him to hold the diaper. Then allow him to turn the diaper over and flush the toilet. This just gives him a greater relationship with the toilet and allows him to realize where the poop is actually supposed to go.
When they come to the point where they are actually sitting on the potty, you just have to try and time it in the same way you would do a puppy. You give them their juice, and them 20-30 minutes later, you sit them on the potty, whether they ask to do it or not.
What I did was turn on the water really lightly, not too loudly so that it alarms them, but really lightly. They'll just start to listen to the water, and all of a sudden, the pee will just come out.
