Partners are extremely important for a mom's recovery, whether she is depressed in pregnancy or postpartum. Partners play a very important role. The partner should find her help, if she hasn't done that already. The partner should take on some household tasks if he's able to do so. If not, he can hire somebody, bring in some social support to help relieve the mom's overwhelm. He should remind her that this is temporary. That we will get through it, and use the word "we" instead of "you." We will get through this fine. Remind her that it's not her fault. She didn't cause this and she's going to be okay. Drive her to appointments, if she needs that kind of help. If the partner doesn't get help himself, not necessarily professional, but if he doesn't get support himself, he can start crumbling. So it's very important that the partner get his own support, that he goes out with his buddies once in a while. That he does something for himself once in a while, because he's the pillar. The partner is holding the family unit together as the mom is getting on her feet. If you want to download the free app, ppdgone, it will not only help the partner's learn what the mom is going through, there's also resources for him, as well.
