If you find your child that cries when you drop them off at preschool, or even with a sitter, it’s really important to prepare your child first. Explain to them way in advance about what’s going to happen and then asked them questions so that they can actually relate to you back what they’re going to be doing in the future. Once it comes time to drop them off, it’s really important to be happy, confident and so excited, because if you don’t trust what you’re doing and you seem anxious, the child is going to feed off of that immediately and have that same reaction. It’s really key to say goodbye. I know a lot of parents might just leave the child and then see them playing and ran out the gate. Uh-uh. You need to say goodbye to your child even if you know they might cry. Because they’re going to turn around and they’re going to go, “Where is mom… where have they gone?” So they’re going to end up crying anyway. So it’s imperative that you do say goodbye. Once it’s time to say goodbye, you need to say, “Goodbye. Love you. Got to go.” Turn around and walk away. And it’s key that the person with your child redirects them. If you do this big, long, drawn out, “Mommy loves you, we’ll be back in two minutes,” it will just drag it on for a lot longer. Don’t do it. It’s hard. You’re going to be crying on the inside, but it’s better for the child.

Renae Plant

Preschooler Director

Australian native Renae Plant saved Los Angeles-based Camelot Preschool on February 14, 2008 along with a handful of parents who believed that Camelot should remain a community preschool. Over the years, Camelot has flourished under her leadership as owner/director. Renae improved the campus with eco-friendly bamboo floors, synthetic grass, themed sand castle and play structures. Her biggest accomplishment was turning a run-down shed, in record time, into an eco-friendly, open plan classroom with natural skylights and a special indoor/outdoor feel. Most recently she planned and added a Kindergarten Program to compliment the school and continues to implement new exciting parent involvement programs as well as Music, Spanish, Yoga and Sign Language.  She oversees the day-to-day running of Camelot as well as juggling her hubby Livinio and three kids, Ilan, Mateo and Deklan, (all of whom attended Camelot) and her bump maternity clothing line.
