Parents are concerned and often wonder if their child has Attention Deficit Disorder. If you are concerned that you child has Attention Deficit Disorder, bring it to the attention of your pediatrician to air your concerns. There are a lot of myths about Attention Deficit Disorder, it's not just an inability to pay attention. Attention Deficit Disorder, at it's heart, really is a disorder in the ability to filter, and organize the environment, and then respond in the way you would like to respond based on their needs. Kids who have difficulty in filtering the environment have a hard time ignoring that chatty kid who is sitting next to him, that fire alarm that is going off in the next room. Kids who have a hard time organizing are messy, they forget where they put things, they lose things. Kids have a hard time responding to the environment in an appropriate way. Sometimes they interrupt and make inappropriate comments, kids often think they are not listening to them. In school, kids with ADHD have a difficult time staying on task, remembering what they are supposed to do, organizing their thoughts and getting them down on paper. If you think your child has ADHD, contact your pediatrician and share your concerns.
