Once the adoptive parents join the agency or attorney or whatever adoption professional they are going to be working with for your adoption. The first thing you will do is a home study. That will approve you in whatever state you are adopting in. Once you are live and approved, that allows the birth mother to choose you. You will usually get contacted by a birth mother, and you will get to know her. It's important that you like her too. For the future of your child will be able to pick up on how you feel about their birth mother. They will know that's where they came from. It's important that you do like the birth mother that you are matched with. You get to know her during the time that she is pregnant and be at the hospital at the birth. The adoptive parents actually take the baby home from the hospital or to the hotel, if they have traveled for the birth. Within a few weeks, the parents' rights will be terminated. There is a period where you will meet with a social worker, about once a month. Then you will go to court for finalization; which is a happy ceremony and day of celebration where you take an oath with the judge, get a teddy bear, and take a picture. It is a day that you will celebrate as your adoption day. From then on, you are an adoptive family. Hopefully, you will stay contact with the agency and we'll see you throughout the years.
