The most important piece of advice that I give to parents is to be with your children. Connect to your children. Children who feel they are connected and significant in the lives of their parents do better in life. It’s the anchor that gives a child the permission to go out in the world when he knows that he has a safe, accepting home base. Take time to get into your child’s world – don’t always try to bring your child into your world. Become interested in his interest. Ask him questions. Solicit her opinion. In that way, your child is put in a position of wanting to do what you want him to do, wanting to make you proud of him. Children who feel that they are significant in the lives of their parents are put in a wonderful position to be happy, healthy adults.
