In general, tooth whitening has been very popular in the last decade or so. It's important to consider tooth whitening, if your child needs it, when all permanent teeth are in. Very often, a child's permanent teeth will appear more yellow than the baby teeth, because the baby teeth are such a beautiful, white, opaque color. However, once all of the teeth have grown in, then you can discuss if teeth whitening is an option. It doesn't take off any of the tooth surface. It may sometimes lead to sensitivity, but there are a variety of different bleaching methods that your pediatric dentist can recommend.
