How can I help my child get rid of his pacifier?
Well, the way we did it, let me tell you something about my youngest son, Arthur. He is three and a half. He was up until a month ago, a pacifier addict. He got his pacifier when he was two weeks old, and it was like heroine to him. He couldn't sleep without it. He had three of them; one in each hand and one in his mouth. When one fell out, almost in his sleep, he would put it back in his mouth again.
So I was very worried. He had to lose it. It was making his teeth bad, so he had to get rid of it,
How to solve this problem? I was so worried for him because it was so important to him. My wife is the tough one and said, "We'll just take them away." Well, I can't do this, but then we found a solution. We made a deal with him. There was this toy from the movie Cars that he really wanted. So we made a deal with him. We said, "Oscar, we will go to the toy store and you can buy this toy with the pacifiers." He was, "Well, I'm not sure. I'm not sure."
Then one day, he said, "Dad, I want to go to the toy store and buy this toy with my pacifiers." I called down to the toy store and they were very helpful. We went down and had the pacifiers in a plastic bag and he got the toy. Not one time after that he asked for the pacifiers. I was very proud of him for making this achievement for as young as he is, three and a half.
