There are many different departments in a middle school that the parent should know about, so should the student. One important place is the main office. If you don't know what department to go to, you can go to the main office and they'll direct you where you need to go. Another important office is the counseling office. You want to go to the counseling office in the beginning of the school year and introduce yourself to your child's counselor. Your child then needs to make sure that they know their counselor also. That's where you go if you have any academic issues or any programming issues or any problem at all with your child that you feel the counselor can help with. Another office is the Nurse's office. If your child has a health issue, that's the person that you go and talk to. That person will then coordinate with the teacher to help your child with any medical need that they might have. Another very important office within the school is the parent center. The Parent Center is the most wonderful resource for parents in middle school that want to stay involved in their child's education. That's an easy way to be involved in middle school. Most parents feel like they can't be involved in middle school as they were in elementary school but if the get involved with the Parent Center, they really can.
