What we see with kids who have had disruptions in their early relationships seem to be at increased risk for depression. It's a child who had a lot of different caregivers in their life or a child who lost a parent; a parent who died early in life, may be at an increased risk for depression.
Clearly, kid's who have been exposed to abuse or violence in their families or their communities may also be at a higher risk for depression. What we find is that kids seem to need consistency and predictability, so anything that disrupts that seems to make them more at risk for depression.
