The benefits of having an only child have the opposite as well. It is like the two sides of a coin. So one of the pluses is that they get all your attention, they get all of your love. One of the downsides is they don´t have siblings to bounce off certain behaviors so when they start to go out into the world and have to socialize, they have to do a little catch up at times. With toys, I remember early on she did not want to share. She had to learn all that stuff. But also, because she was with us all the time and she would be in situations with us and because it was only one kid, it was easy to take. She matured fast in a good way. Not too fast, but she saw adults and because we never spoke down to her and I talked to her like a small person, not an inferior person, she has got a very well adjusted attitude in the world and she can handle herself in different situations.
