Placenta encapsulation is essentially taking the placenta and through a process of steaming and dehydrating and then pulverizing, putting it into capsules that are odorless and tasteless. The benefit to placenta encapsulation is that once a mom has been pregnant and given birth, she's had a huge rush of hormones pulsating through her body. And then as soon as she births the baby and her placenta, her hormonal level drops extremely, and sometimes drastically low. For some women this can cause severe problems like postpartum depression. Others just feel a general what we call the baby blues. So what we do by encapsulating the placenta and the mom ingesting those capsules after her birth is we allow her a gradual decline in her hormone fluctuations after she's given birth.

Mandy Schutt

Doula & Hypnosis Instructor

Mandy Schutt was backpacking around the world when she decided that she wanted to become a doula. As she floated through the Amazon Pampas with two European midwives, she was immediately captivated by their birth stories and the culture of womanhood that they spoke of. Traveling on through South America, Europe, and Asia, she was able to witness motherhood in a different light than she had before. When she ran across the term, "doula" for the first time, she knew this was a name she wanted to claim for herself!

Mandy looks at a woman's ability to grow another life inside of her as nothing short of a miracle. She supports women in their efforts to discover this for themselves and know that the act of giving birth is more than just an isolated event in a mother's life, it is realization of an empowerment that many never realized existed. She gave birth to her daughter in 2009, which was the single most amazing event of her life. Mandy believes that women should birth where and how they are the most comfortable and secure. Her safe place was in her home with a midwife, her husband, a doula, hypnosis, and a gorgeous pool of pain-dissolving water!
