A common miscommunication that parents have is that if they use E.C. it's an all or nothing thing, which just isn't the case. The point of elimination communication is to communicate with your child. It's not about a timeline. It's not about meeting goals at a certain point in a child's development. It's about understanding, "Hey, I hear what you need and I'm going to try my best to meet that need." So let's say a parent has a full-time job and they're only able to let their child go diaper-free one time in the morning, and the baby uses the potty one time in the morning, and then maybe some diaper-free time on the weekend. That's great. That's allowing the child to never completely be out of touch with the mind-body connection of, "Oh, when my body feels this way, then that means that I need to go potty." And even if you're not doing that 100% of the time, your baby will still be able to make that connection, which will eventually lead you into a potty training which will be much easier.

Mandy Schutt

Doula & Hypnosis Instructor

Mandy Schutt was backpacking around the world when she decided that she wanted to become a doula. As she floated through the Amazon Pampas with two European midwives, she was immediately captivated by their birth stories and the culture of womanhood that they spoke of. Traveling on through South America, Europe, and Asia, she was able to witness motherhood in a different light than she had before. When she ran across the term, "doula" for the first time, she knew this was a name she wanted to claim for herself!

Mandy looks at a woman's ability to grow another life inside of her as nothing short of a miracle. She supports women in their efforts to discover this for themselves and know that the act of giving birth is more than just an isolated event in a mother's life, it is realization of an empowerment that many never realized existed. She gave birth to her daughter in 2009, which was the single most amazing event of her life. Mandy believes that women should birth where and how they are the most comfortable and secure. Her safe place was in her home with a midwife, her husband, a doula, hypnosis, and a gorgeous pool of pain-dissolving water!
