The immune system is very important in autism and it must be functioning properly. I get a little frustrated when a parent goes to their doctor and the doctor says, "You have an ear infection," and two weeks later it returns and you have another ear infection, two months later, you have another ear infection. And once they get about six or eight ear infections, they are shuttled off to the ear, nose and throat doctor and they put in the tubes, but nobody asks the question why does the child keep having ear infections. Maybe it is something that we're doing that are promoting ear infections. For example, when I remove dairy from a child's diet, ear infection go away, they improve. So we have to ask the question, "Why are the children getting sick all the time?" And again, if you have a child with special needs, do you want to take care of the child with special needs who's sick all the time or one who's healthy all the time. I prefer to take care of one who is healthy all the time. Our therapist would certainly like to take care of the one who is healthy all the time. So it's very important to get the handle on why the child is sick and that means taking a good look at the immune system.
