Once a parent becomes aware that their child is having problems with drugs or alcohol, it is imperative that they seek professional help immediately. When you see the changes in behavior, when you see the changes in lifestyle, you need to seek out the help of a professional. Talk to someone and tell them what's going on, so they can help guide you through the process. It's a complicated process that we are not prepared to do. If we were, we would not be in that position in the first place. Seek out a licensed professional and get help. Once you find a professional -- and there's many ways to find them these days. The internet is a good source for that or other parents. If you don't want to talk to somebody about it, you're going to need to start looking on the internet. Talk to his or her pediatrician. Speak to your family doctor and ask him if he knows somebody who specializes in substance disorder behaviors. Sometimes if you go to your pediatrician, they are not going to have the knowledge of dealing with substance abuse issues, but they may know who to refer you to. If that's a good choice for you and you trust your family doctor, ask them. Seek out help. Don't be afraid to ask for help.
