Parents need to know four things about the safety on YouTube. First, the good news is there is a safe view mode. While YouTube does do a fairly good job of keeping out some content, unfortunately your child can stumble upon either very violent videos or restricted content. So when you turn on the YouTube safe view mode, you can skip that experience for your child. YouTube´s own terms of service require in accordance with the Children´s Online Privacy Protection Act that any member of YouTube be 13 years of age or older so if your child is under the age of 13 and they have an account, you need to delete it. Parents also need to understand a lot of times kids use YouTube to seek social acceptance. They post videos looking for anonymous feedback. They post outrageous videos or sometimes they just use YouTube to vent. Now this is problematic because it makes them susceptible to unwanted feedback as well as a victim of cyber bullying. Now for your teen that is mature enough to have a YouTube account, knowing how to use it responsibly. YouTube does a fantastic job of allowing your kid to activate the privacy settings. That way they can restrict who sees their video and block anybody from seeing the videos that they don´t want to and that is a great thing because YouTube should be enjoyed.
