I don't think that there is a kid over the age of two that doesn't know YouTube exists. Parents will say to me all the time, "I came in the other day. The kids were on YouTube and I was appalled at the video they were watching. Help! What can I do about this?" There is actually some really fun things that you can do. Obviously, you can look at the privacy and security settings. There are actual parental controls within YouTube that you can set up. A lot of people don't realize, you can create your own family channel that's age appropriate for the kids. Say to them, "Look, when you go to YouTube, I don't want you searching for things, I want you to go to our family channel." At that family channel, upload your favorite videos and channels that you get to pre-screen on YouTube. Just tell your kids, if there is something you want to look at and it's not on the family channel, let me know, and I will find it for you. It's a great way to trust, give your kids some freedom, but at the same time shield them from some of the things you may not want them to see.
