One of the things to remember is forging a secure attachment is that when we have misalignments, when it does not go right and we do a repair, we actually strengthen the brain, the development of the brain, of the infant brain, even more than if there was not a problem. I mean think about your friends. I mean you know sometimes when you have these misconnections and they are repaired, the relationship is better than ever. The same is true with this adoptive baby. It is going to be harder to create this emotional connection. But if you stay empathic, see the world from your infant´s eyes, stay patient and continue to try to connect to that child on an emotional level, there will be repair and you will create a very strong and it can be a very positive and secure attachment with your adopted infant. But it is going to take more work and more sensitivity and more patience.
