Personally, I really can't see any cons to having a drug-assisted delivery. I don't often find myself in a position where I like to inflict pain upon myself, and I feel like labor is the ultimate pain, so I'm not really sure why I'd want to feel every single rip and tear. With my first the doctor said, you know, "We can either give you the drugs now," I think I was dilated half a centimeter, "or we can wait until you're really in excruciating pain." I looked at him and I said, "Why would we do that?" and he gave me the drugs and it was beautiful. For my second and third, I did the same thing, and I felt no pain. I had glorious, wonderful births that were - they were a little long, but I didn't feel any discomfort and it was wonderful. The one con about getting the drugs is your husband will know that you weren't in any pain. I have this quite a bit, where my husband will be lifting up something heavy, or doing something that exerts the tiniest bit of effort, and he'll be moaning and groaning, and I'll come back and say, "You know, I birthed three children, how dare you make such a fuss over that little thing you're picking up!" And he'll turn to me and say, "But you didn't feel any pain," and he's right, I didn't. So my advice to drug-taking mothers is get the drugs, get them as soon as possible, you will love them, but for your own benefit later, fake a little pain so your husband can't pull that stuff on you, because otherwise you will regret it. I promise.
