Heartburn is very common in pregnancy and it tends to get worse toward the end of the pregnancy, because of the physical nature of the pregnancy pushing on everything and allowing the food to come back more quickly. Usually, we recommend that you sit or stand for at least 3 or 4 hours after each meal, which means don’t have dinner at 9 o’clock and then lie down on the couch to watch TV at 9.30, because you’re more likely to get heartburn.
But there are many medications that you can take that obviously you want to talk to your doctor, but Tums, and Tagamet, Pepcid AC, Zantac – are all these over the counter medications that can greatly relieve the heartburn.
Lastly, I would say to avoid foods that are more likely to cause it, like spicy foods, foods that will come back more easily.
