Sonograms that have been used in Obstetrics for the last 30 years, have really added a new dimension to monitor fetuses in utero. What it has allowed us to do is pick up lots of issue before they become serious problems. If we have a problem with the growth of the baby; where the baby is either too large or too small, or the amniotic fluid is not adequate or the position of the placenta is not appropriate. Perhaps, where there is some abnormalities of the fetus itself. The ability of the ultrasound to pick these up and allow us to correct the situation or monitor the situations carefully, has allowed us to have much better pregnancy outcomes.
