Home birth is becoming increasingly popular in the United States, but still only accounts for approximately 1 percent of all deliveries.
People that choose home births, want to do it because they want to have a natural birth in their own environment. They want to have the choice of position, to move around, to be in their own bed. To have the people around them that they feel comfortable with, but they do have to do it naturally.
What people need to realize is that there are hazards to a home birth. People need to be triaged carefully, so that people who are at high risk do not attempt home birth. People that do attempt home births have to accept the responsibility that, occasionally, there are situations where people would be better off in a hospital setting.
