After your due date, the doctor may make some recommendations, but none of these recommendations are going to be truly solid. In Los Angeles, we have a restaurant where they can give you a salad. The salad dressing has been known to put you into labor. There are certain activities that you can do, like sexual intercourse that might promote the onset of labor. There are other things like nipple stimulation. Nipple stimulation releases a hormone that can cause contractions. Holistic approaches, like acupuncture and blue cohosh, which is an herb, other medications that can be used. Doctors don't always feel comfortable with having you do these things at home because it's not being monitored. We care for the safety of the baby. Check with your doctor before you try any of these methods, just to make sure he is okay with it.
