It may sound crazy but sometimes there is an upside to bullying. And the upside is that bullying, like lots of problems that kids face, is an opportunity. It is an opportunity to teach kids how to build confidence and resilience and that means to help kids find a way to get out of a problem that they are facing on their own. So sometimes it may take a lot of different work or different strategies to help the kid work through a bullying problem. But think about it this way. If they do it themselves without your help, they are going to feel great. That is what real confidence is all about. Something they see they have achieved. That confidence is more important than anything we can put on them. So the upside is getting out of a problem helps build enduring confidence and shows them that they can get out of these problems when they face them again through life.
