Top Tips for creating the perfect Nursery

Join Photographer & Editor Ulrica Wihlborg as she breaks down how to design the perfect nursery for your baby. When you’re planning and decorating your first nursery, keep major colors—the walls, cribs, and dressers—neutral, like white or cream. Use colors as accent colors. So if you have a daughter, adorn items like pillows and crib sheets with brighter colors like pink or lilac. This way if a baby boy comes along, you’ll only be changing the accent colors!

How to treat your baby's red cheeks?

Pediatrician Tanya Altmann explains how babies can often be encumbered by acne, which is often due to the transfer of hormones from the mother to the baby. Acne is completely harmless and will go away in time, so it’s nothing to stress about. If your baby has acne, it can help to wash their face with mild, unscented baby soap and water. If their acne gets worse, speak with your doctor about introducing an over-the-counter, 1% Hydrocortisone cream for a few days to tame the acne down.

How to take care of your babies umbilical cord after birth?

Pediatrician Tanya Altmann discusses how to handle your baby’s umbilical cord after birth and gives some useful tips. The goal is for your baby’s umbilical cord to stay dry and shrivel up so it will fall off on its own, which can happen anywhere from a couple weeks to a couple months after birth. The best way to keep their umbilical cord area dry during a bath, is to use a sponge bath. This will only involve a soft washcloth, water, and some mild baby soap to clean around the area.

What is shaken baby syndrome and how to avoid it?

MD and Professor of Pediatrics, Tamiko Jordan, discusses the severity of Shaken Baby Syndrome, which is the result of a violent shaking injury. This can cause horrible brain damage to your baby and result in the tearing of blood vessels and tissue, or more severe symptoms like coma or death. One out of every five babies with Shaken Baby Syndrome will die after the first few days of injury. It’s important for parents to be counseled and learn how shaking a baby is never a valid option to stop the baby from crying.

Travelling with your baby.

Join working mom Natalie Fischer and Working Moms Lifestyle Expert Samantha Ettus for some great tips on how to travel with your little ones. If you plan on traveling in the afternoon, don’t do. The morning is truly the best time to travel with kids because they are happier and less cranky. If you have an infant, invest in a sling for easy baby-carrying. Always have plenty of snacks available and activities planned for your kids’ short attention spans.
