A lot of parents are concerned that going through the whole Criminal Justice System is going to do more harm than good. That going to court is going to traumatize the child even more. I have found that going to court has been a hugely cathartic experience for kids. When they are in a courtroom and they being believed, and they are next to a prosecutor, and a police officer, and people are listening to what they are saying and valuing the words that they are saying. It's the first step for them getting themselves back. So I have found the number one, biggest misconception out there, is that the process is more traumatizing than the abuse. It's just not the case. It's such a feeling of relief and elation for many kids when the are heard, believed, and are part of the process.
