How can a working mom maintain an active presence in their child's life when they have long work hours? Hmm. You know, most working moms consider themselves a mom first. With that being said, most of us feel guilty that we don't spend enough time with our kids. First of all, realize that research shows that kids of working moms fair just as well as kids of stay-at-home moms. Know that it's quality time and not quantity that matters most. So you have to make the moments count. When you're brushing your daughter's hair, really connect. Put little notes in your son's lunch box. When you walk in the door after work, shun the Blackberry and the computer and just bond with your baby or be with your kids. And let your kids help prep and cook dinner, and have family dinners as often as you can. Breakfast and weekend lunches count too, ya know. And finally, stay connected while you're at work. 3:30 means time to talk or text your school-aged child. Rituals like this go a long way to help kids feel loved and secure.
