The one thing you can do is buy organic foods, because that's the one time you can be assured that there's no GMOs, there's no herbicides, there's no insecticides, there's no persistent chemicals. There's also no hormones, which is another thing we should all be avoiding. But of course organic is often more expensive, or too expensive for people on budgets. And it's not necessarily possible to buy all things organic. The two most important things to buy organically would be fruits and vegetables and dairy products. Because in both of these cases you have a much more likely exposure, that is a greater likelihood that there will be residues of these toxins. The next thing you can do is vote with your dollar, of course. Let the retailers know that you're looking for foods that are GMO-free or organic. GMO-free is not quite as expensive as organic, so that might be a way. The last, and most important thing I think, is we need to be expressing our views politically as well. We need to let our senators and congress people and representatives know that we support the labeling of genetically engineered foods. You know, America is one of 64 nations in the world that do not have labeling. Really progressive countries like Russia and China and Saudi Arabia actually give their citizens the right to know when they purchase if their foods are genetically engineered or not, but we don't have that right here. So we've got to let our legislators know that this is important. Congress and the White House and our senators are really in a position to give us the same rights that citizens around the world have. And this could really change the nature of the food system, because 96% of consumers say they would like to know, but we don't have that right now. A critical resource for parents is to go to JustLabelIt.org, where you get all kinds of resources for how you can reach your legislators at the state or federal level. JustLabelIt.org is really a national resource to help give us the right to now.
