I use a lot of scripture and prayer in my parenting. For instance, if I'm in a tense situation with my kids, I will definitely stop and I will pray. Because I need it. I need to chill. I need to change my focus, because my focus is starting to be tense. What I need is to stop and pray, get back into contact with God and with the source of everything that's good and just readjust the way I'm thinking about things. And then my kids are like, "oh man. She's praying again. She's bringing in the big guns." That seems to be their reaction. But I think it's really important for kids. I think it makes them feel secure, to know that their mother answers to a higher authority. That they're not just subject to my emotions, my whims, my moods. That I'm really stopping and I'm striving to seek out the ultimate good in that situation. So that's the way I feel about it.
