President of MOMSTELL

Sharon LeGore is the founder and president of MOMSTELL, a parent advocacy organization she created after the death of her daughter to a drug overdose in 1998 whose mission to join concerned parents and families to work together towards improving drug treatment, education, legislation, and policy. At the national level, Mrs. LeGore is a consultant on substance abuse family involvement issues for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) and serves as the co-director of the “National Family Dialogue for Youth with Substance Use Disorders” Sharon’s heart and passion to improve treatment accessibility and support parents who are experiencing the challenges she has faced has brought her from a position as a dental assistant to the position of a national advocate on substance abuse and co-occurring mental health disorders. Sharon resides in York Pennsylvania.

The Parent Support Network at the Partnership for Drug-Free Kids is a system of care for parents whose teen and young adult children are struggling with drugs and alcohol.  Grounded in the evidence-based principles of motivational interviewing and Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT), the Parent Support Network helps parents and other caregivers keep open the lines of communication and caring with their child, and reduce the damage that is being done to the child and to the family by substance abuse and related behaviors.
